Growing and growing!
The glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón is a large and growing lake on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park. Beautiful Park which will have a some articles here on this website
I remember when I saw it first as a little boy. The Iceberg was so huge but incredible at the same time. I had the feeling I was a person in a fantasy book. The place directly had a big influence on me and on same time significant respect. You see the power in the Icebergs, the power that had let them in this journey from the glacier to the Atlantic Ocean. The power that let some of the icebergs go under the bridge on road one and almost manage to go to the see in this beautiful forms made of ice.
Size and depth.
The lake is now 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) away from the ocean’s edge and covers an area of about 18 km2. It recently became the deepest lake in Iceland, at over 248 metres. The time from the time I was there as a little boy to today have made it so much bigger that sometimes I go there; I just don´t believe it.
The guide boat.
I recommended highly to use the opportunity to go with the guides on their boat to the lake. Like I said before, in just a few meters things change a lot, and you have an absolute new view on it. Even more like you are alone in the nature sailing between the icebergs and get on same time excellent and professional information about the ice, The glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón, the story and much more. How beautiful! I would love to see an iceberg up close one day, and this one sounds wonderful. I imagine it must be very quiet and peaceful.
One of my good friends grew up in Newfoundland here in Canada, and she told me that when she was a child, they would put ice from icebergs into their drinks. How fun!
